Dr. Ibraheem Samirah, a Herndon-based dentist, won the Democratic Party caucus on Jan 12 for state House District 86 with 36% of the 2,047 votes cast.
Coming in second was Kofi Annan, head of the Fairfax County NAACP, with 30%, followed by Michael O’Reilly and Chad Thompson.
Complete election results, provided by the Samirah campaign, are here:
Samirah said, “I am deeply humbled that voters chose me to be their Democratic nominee to represent them in the House of Delegates. I entered this race to fight for the progressive values we all share–such as affordable healthcare, decreased transportation costs, and improved early-childhood education. I am looking forward to running in next month’s special
election.”
Chad Thompson commented, ”The turnout yesterday was extraordinary and it shows the power of the Democratic Party in Northern Virginia. I am looking forward to continuing to be active in the Democratic party in this area and look forward to working with you all, especially Kofi and Mike who ran great, thoughtful campaigns. I am so happy and proud of all of those who came out to support me. I extend my congratulations to Dr Samirah and pledge my support for him in the upcoming special election on February 19th.”
The election on Feb 19 will choose the replacement for Jennifer Boysko, who was elevated to state Senate to replace Jennifer Wexton, who was elected to Congress last November.
